About BIAU

BISOU Brain Injury Association Uganda (BIAU) is an indigenous National Association of Persons with Acquired Brain Injury (PWABIs) and their caregivers. It is registered with the NGO Bureau (Ministry of Internal Affairs) under certificate no. IDNR169376259NB with her secretariat located on Gayaza road, Kanyanya opposite Gaz Petro station. BIAU’s vision is “A society where PWABIs are living dignified are cognizant of their rights”, and its mission is “To advocate for legal, health, social, economic and capacity building for persons with brain injury”. Thus, BIAU exists to advocate and promote the rights of PWABIs. In Uganda, BIAU is the first organization to support people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and currently the organization is working with over learners with PWABIs, 32 0 PWABs and teachers and 150 caregivers in the targeted areas of its operation. From operating in just two districts (Kampala and Wakiso) in 2021, BIAU has expanded to operate in 8 more Districts with a membership of about 450 fully paid-up individual members.

Our Programs

Reproductive health

This program involves HIV/AIDS education, family planning, gender and caretakers and awareness raising on gender based violence and harassment against persons with and afffected with brain injury and other concerned personnel.

Training and Capacity Building

empower and enhance PWABIs’ and their caretakers’ abilities with practical skills necessary to sustainably claim their lives and rights which enables them to confidently participate in advocacy campaigns at local, national, regional and global levels.

Livelihood Projects

BIAU believe brain injury can affect someone’s ability to work, maintain financial stability, and access necessary resources. BIAU intends to contribute in supporting her members mitigate livelihood and development issues among people with Brain injury
